Covid Situation

by Dora Hernandez

Countless people were diagnosed with this infectious disease

Where airborne particles caused difficulty to breathe.

The virus that spread with such swift velocity

Caused a world to shut down with complete ferocity.

Optimistic and obedient was all we could be

As we followed the tedious rules of quarantine.

Masks, that became an irritating fashion,

Were an essential attempt at a mass prevention action.

Most of us in a bubble, while many tried to breathe through a tube.

Vital workers on the frontline with everything to prove.

Vigilant efforts at developing an unknown vaccine

were hurriedly made with no studies to show any long term venene.

Yet scientists persisted and we would all endure

the benefits and consequences of a potentially radical cure.

Inevitably, the death toll rose higher and higher.

Feelings of despair surmounted a so-called healthcare fire.

The uncertainty of fate became normal in an overwhelming situation.

Covid, a societal thief, ventured to collapse our nation.

Dedication and love with the courage to support,

Is what was needed to regain, regrow and report

a stronger community with a greater sense of awareness.

Covid is still around and probably here to stay, but in all fairness….

So are we.

Dora Hernandez is a passionate writer…to say the least. Raised in Chicago, IL she quickly familiarized herself with life in a bustling and sometimes dangerous city. It was her surroundings and people she met that inspired her love to write poetry with a profound sense of rhythmic verses. As an adult, her time to write became scarce. Even though she doesn’t write as often as she would like to, for her, writing is like riding a bike; she will never forget how to. She will always take pride in what she puts on paper…or types in her laptop.
